Another fun filled day
Started the day with a Singaporean breakfast. I had seen photos of this in many eateries - and said to MisterD, I must try it. Wasn't sure if MisterD would try it, as I know he is not a fan of soft boiled eggs especially when it appears not quite cooked. He did surprise me - as he gave it a go.
Was funny when we were lining up to order. Got talking to a man - who made comment that we were at the local coffee shop which many locals go to. He asked whether we wanted Starbucks, across the road - and we said, no we want to try the breakfast and coffee here.
The toast has butter and kaya, and you dip the bread into the soft boiled eggs. I watched the locals and noticed them adding the dark soy sauce - and so we gave it a try. It was ok. I found the bread with the kaya jam, way too sweet for me. Kaya jam is made from eggs, sugar, coconut milk and pandan leaves.
Coffee was very dark with condensed milk. I didn't mind the coffee at all.
MasterW enjoyed his french toast.
After breakfast the boys went to the Airforce Museum, via the MRT and bus - and from what I hear, they both enjoyed it very much.
I, on the other hand, made my way to Bugis Junction (shopping mall).
Two hours or so later, we met up and had ourselves some lunch. Seems lunch time rush in Singapore is around 2pm, as people seemed to have come out from everywhere - and so finding a suitable place to eat and find something that MasterW wanted (or would eat) was a bit of a challenge. We ended up finding a great little french bakery that had yummy baguettes and sandwiches - and chairs that were like lounge chairs.
Knowing that we wanted to head to Gardens by the Bay in the evening, we decided a short stop in our apartment before we head out for the evening. MisterD and MasterW went for a swim. I, feeling a tad bit light headed decided to rest and lay down for a little. Well the rest was short lived, I dozed off and was then woken by the loudest clap of thunder!
With the pool in full view from our apartment - I looked outside and say MasterW and MisterD getting out of the water somewhat quickly. No one wants to be in the pool with lightning around.
Fair to say that both my nap and the boy's swim were both short lived.
A quick change over and we were then off to Gardens by the Bay via the MRT.
First stop was dinner.
We were so impressed with the foodcourt at the Marina Bay shopping mall, we decided to eat there again.
MasterW wanted sui mai, and bbq pork bun - same as what he had our first day. I looked around and could see and hear many people getting to their table with these sizzling dishes. As a lover of food that is piping hot - I thought thats what I want. It was delicious.
MisterD who is not really a soup lover - walks back to the table with a bowl of soup and noodles. I'm somewhat surprised, looking at him - thinking huh what did you get - and he says it didn't look anything like that in the picture.
Dinner was done - and so off to the Gardens by the Bay.
We had an idea of the direction we wanted to go but knew there was a crossing of a very busy highway. By this time of the day MasterW does start to complain about walking too much - and so the thought was to find the quickest, fastest route - and so we followed some signs which had us go to the very top level of the shopping mall.
Let me tell you, as we went up and up and up this very long, steep escalator - it was getting hotter and hotter and hotter. I made comment that I felt like we were in an oven. It was incredible.
At the top of escalator we walked outside and found ourselves at a dead end. Great!
What we then discovered, as we walked along the roof top deck/walk way of the shopping mall - was that we had the most magnificent views of the city and the Marina Bay Sands hotel.
This building has truly impressed me - photos do not do it justice at all. The size and scale of this building is incredible.
So what at first seemed like we were taken on a wild goose chase (so to speak) ended up being a walk with spectacular views.
... and so we finally reach the Gardens by the Bay, which is also very impressive. The size of the Supertrees Grove once again can not be truly appreciated in a photo.
We found ourselves a spot and we waited for the Supertrees Grove light show to begin.
It is at this point, when I made a comment - that we were waiting and waiting and perspiring and perspiring. Not a breath of air.
The purchase of a $1 hand fan, has been a life saver. MasterW has his little rechargeable Mickey Mouse fan which we purchased at Hong Kong Disneyland. Another good buy - though I do remember that costing more than $1 - but worth the money, as it has definitely helped him on this trip and in Hong Kong.
We watched the light show and the whole time, the three of us were in awe.
It was brilliant.
After the light show we then made our way home. This time via a taxi.
.. and so another fun filled day, with many more memories created.
MasterW's best thing was the Supertrees light show and going to the Airforce Museum.
MisterD's best thing was seeing the Supertrees Grove and its light show and also seeing the vintage jet plane T-33A Shooting Star on display at the Airforce Museum.
MissC's best thing was also the Supertrees light show.
PS I ask my boys for their one best thing ... and it seems that they cannot determine their one best thing. Too hard to decide btw two and so I am told - that there is likely to be times, that they will share with you their best thing(s) 😉
