I'm in satay heaven .....

You guessed it ... our first dinner was at "satay street" at the Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre.
They close the street and it becomes what
people know 'satay street'
It was yum, yum, yum, yum!!!

I seriously could have sat there with our Tiger beer and have kept ordering more satays - beef, chicken and prawn.  We polished off 26 x sticks.  MasterW's first try of satays and he loved it!

Day one, and we have certainly eaten well.  Have a feeling we will be eating well for the 10 days that we are here.  Good thing we are clocking up around 16,000 steps.

Have just arrived back at our apartment after our dinner.  Whilst coming up the lift, the three of us agreed thats its been a great day, having done so much - and it is only day one.

After our mini rest this morning - we headed to Bugis MRT (train station) to grab ourselves an EZ Link card (Singapore MYKI card, that is 100 times better).

We ask for two adults and one child - we had over money to load onto the card, and am told - no your child travels for free.

With proof of age - MasterW receives his EZ Link card, and he rides all public transport for free.  Unbelievable!

Having experienced the MRT in Hong Kong and here in Singapore - why couldn't Melbourne have taken some lessons from others, and implemented a system that actually works.  As a tourist here in Singapore you can buy 1, 2 or 3 day Tourist Pass card, and it costs something like $26 for 3 days, unlimited travel.  Why, why, why Melbourne.  Why did we have to be different.

Anyway - we're on our train, just 2 - 3 stops and we get off at Bayfront station and make our way into the Marina Bay shopping mall.

All the top brands, you name it, it was there.  Together with designer kids stores too.

MisterD, MasterW and I make our way to foodcourt - as we're not too sure we could afford eating anywhere else.  A dim sum lunch in which we were all impressed and so cheap!  The foodcourt did not let us down - in fact looking around at all the stalls, have a feeling we might just be heading back there.

After lunch, MasterW enjoyed the Digital Canvas Light show - running around on a touch sensitive floor with neon lights that interacts with the movement.

It was a special moment seeing him with the biggest smile on his face, playing with the kids, running around and simply having a ball.

Impressive building
From the Foodcourt -  we noticed an outside area which was near the entry to the Art Science Museum (of which we will plan for another day, I think).  It is here we saw the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.

What a spectacular building it is.  Very, very impressive!

.. and so with a few family snaps taken outside, we headed to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and made our way to level 56 to the SkyPark Observation Deck.

Our little man quite the traveller these days
View from the Sands SkyPark Observation Deck

We wandered around the Sands SkyPark Observation Deck - took our family pics once again, and then purchased an icecream for MasterW, a Tiger beer for MisterD and Singapore Sling (slurpy) for yours truly.

We sat on the Deck and simply took it all in - grateful for everything which we have in our lives 💕

With a couple of hours up our sleeve until dinner, we made our way back to the apartment - for some down time - and then it was out for dinner.

Just as the name of this post suggests ... I was truly in satay heaven - it was good!

At first it was a tad bit confronting with these men, trying to give us a menu and ask us to take a seat etc - however our eyes were set on a particular spot, which we had watched on a Youtube travel video.  The Best Satay No 7 & 8!  Thats where we were heading.

Also on the travel video, was sugar cane juice - and so that was MasterW's request.

For a 6yo boy who usually only drinks water, he's been a tad bit more adventurous having tried lime juice and sugar cane juice today.  Both of which he liked.

The Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre is amongst high rise buildings in the CBD.  A popular spot by many.   Oh and I forgot to mention the char kway teow for $4.50!    Having watched a few travel videos of 'best hawker centres in Singapore', we all agreed that you need go to a restaurant - you get to eat pretty good food at hawker centres.

Hawker Centre surrounded by city buildings

MasterW best thing of the day was going up to the top of the Skypark (ie Observation Deck).

MisterD best thing of the day - seeing and then going up to the Observation Deck of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.  Special mention - it was pretty cool seeing the Singapore Airforce F-15 and F-16 fighters coming in to land at the nearby airforce base.

MissC best thing of the day was eating satay in satay street.

.. and MisterD's tip of the day, sleep in as not much happens in Singapore before 10am.
